In the battle to design and build electric powered all terrain vehicles, Pune’s Smt Kashibai Navale College Of Engineering impresses in eBAJA
Pithampur: Hard work finally paid off for the students of DY Patil College of Engineering, Akurdi as they emerged overall winners in the mBAJA category of the 11th edition of Mahindra BAJA SAEINDIA series, which concluded at the NATRAX Facility in Pithampur on Sunday.
It is the competition where engineering college students from all over the country participate as a team where they design and build a prototype of a rugged single seat, off-road recreational four-wheel vehicle known as ATV’s
It was a patient wait of eight years for the DY Patil lads as they finally made it to the stage to collect their much awaited prize.
An elated Shubham Sutar, captain of the DY Patil team credited the entire team for the success. Speaking after being announced the winners, Sutar said “First of all we started with the design phase and taking the experience of the last eight years, it was a every year contribution and design enhancement by our team. This year we were successful in virtual BAJA and then we came to the manufacturing phase. Even there our experience taught us many things. We changed the techniques, manufacturing procedures and were more perfect building our vehicle.”
“This edition was a challenging one as there were many new hurdles which were introduced, some things were critical that if both the vehicle and the driver are capable then only you can achieve your target. It does not depend on luck or any other factor. Finally everything depended on the vehicle performance, “ Sutar added.
When quizzed whether they ever imagined that they would be on stage as the winners, Sutar had a quick answer “We had created a Champions 2018 poster in our workshop and we were pretty sure about performing in the event. We all gave our 100 percent and that is why we are now successful.”
“We have registered for BAJA SAE Maryland. We will test our vehicle there. We will make some modifications and we will go international,” Sutar informed.
Crediting his team Sutar said “Every team member contributed in his/her department. Also the drivers had an important role to play in the testing. Every single person was responsible for this feat. There was a tough challenge especially from good teams who have been participating from the last eight years. We never got any first award for any event. We were consistent in every event which is the reason for our overall success.”
Meanwhile in the eBAJA category it was Pune’s Smt. Kashibai Navale College of Engineering who emerged winners. Speaking to Sakal Times, Nishant Patil, captain of Smt. Kashibai Navale College of Engineering said “The event has been a good one. The experience which we got in this edition of the event was far more better than the previous one. The track was a difficult one this time with challenging obastacles, it was a good track overall.”
“There were major challenges this time especially the hill climb and the rock climb where a lot of effort was required. It was due to the efforts of all the team members that we could overcome all the obstacles whi ch came our way,” Patil added.
“Our team has been working very hard for this event since one year over this car. All our efforts have finally paid off.
“Events like these help us when we are out in the field. We get a practical knowledge of the assembly of the vehicle be it manufacturing or the design and all the other aspects. Taking part in such events definitely is helful for all the students,” Patil informed.
