Pune: Easter eve was bowlers day as Shubham Jha of Siemens and Niranjan Phadnis of KPIT returned with bagful of wickets on a day of contrasting results that saw defending champion Infosys being knocked out from the FLAME University Corporate Cricket T20 League 2018 managed by Triumph Events at the FLAME University Campus in Lavale on Saturday.
Infosys’ decision to bat first backfired as new ball bowler Shubham Jha reduced them to 10 for 2 in the the innings’ second over when he struck two blows in his very first over—first sending Sandip Shanghai (1) and Ashay Palkar (0)—back to the pavilion.

From there on Infosys failed to recover as wickets kept falling as Siemens took the grip over the match and only meaningful partnership came from the ninth wicket pair of Nilesh Kawchale (44—40b, 3x4, 2x6) and Bhaskar Srivastava (9 not out—17b) before being bowled out for 93 in 19.1 overs.

Eventual man-of-the-match Shubham Jha returned with figures of 4 for 20, while Rahul Gaikwad (3 for 10) and Srinath S (2 for 17) also chipped in to help Siemens champions on a low score.
Chasing a modest total, Siemens was propped up by Himanshu Agarwal (32—46b, 2x4), Atul Pawar (19—19b, 1x4, 1x6) and Manoj Bhagwat (20—17b, 2x4), as they scored 6-wicket win to storm into the semifinals.

KPIT in Semifinals
The second quarterfinal saw KPIT take on Barclays on an unusually hot day and faced a virtual collapse after the opening wicket stand of 29 runs between Aloke Nagraj (9) and Tushar Waigankar (19—19b, 1x4, 1x6) was broken when Sagar Agrawal castled their wickets.

Sagar struck another blow by sending back Kamlesh Surve (3) and it was left to Ajinkya Terkar (39—38b) and Mayuresh Likhite (32—22b, 2x4, 1x6) to resurrect their innings as KPIT posted 129 for 7 in their allotted 20 overs.

Barclays were rash in their approach and lost wickets at regular intervals after an opening wicket stand of 35 between Dattaray Routray (24—27b, 2x4, 2x6) and Abhishek (13). Dependable batsman Kanishk Singh (20—15b, 2x4) too failed to give solidity to their chase as Barclays fell short by 6 runs.

It was Niranjan Phadnis, who came up with figures of 3 for 24 in the early part of the innings before Pravin Nittoor (3 for 13) took over and snapped Barclays chase just short of the target.

Brief scores: Infosys 93 all out in 19.1 overs (Sanjay Purohit 20 (19b, 3x4), Nilesh Kawchale 44 (40b, 3x4, 2x6), Shubham Jha 4-20, Rahul Gaikwad 3-10, Srinath S 2-17) lost to Siemens 96 for 4 in 17.1 overs (Himanshu Agarwal 32 (46b, 2x4), Atul Pawar 19 (19b, 1x4, 1x6), Manoj Bhagwat 20 (17b, 2x4), Anand Konda 2-16).

KPIT 129 for 7 in 20 overs (Tushar Waigankar 19 (19b, 1x4, 1x6), Ajinkya Terkar 39 (38b), Mayuresh Likhite 32 (22b, 2x4, 1x6), Sagar Agrawal 3-15, Kanishk Singh 2-19) beat Barclays 123 for 9 in 20 overs (Dattaray Routray 24 (27b, 2x4, 2x6), Kanishk Singh 20 (15b, 2x4), Anoop Pora 21 (17b, 2x4, 1x6), Niranjan Phadnis 3-24, Tushar Waigankar 2-23, Pravin Nittoor 3-13).
