Pune: Deccan Gymkhana ‘A’ defeated Chonde Patil Academy 58-44 in the semifinals of the 8th edition of the Late Sanjay Mahadeo Nimhan Memorial Under-16 District Basketball Championship being played at the Deccan Gymkhana basketball courts on Saturday.
The Deccan Gymkhana girls were ahead right from the start as the score read 11-7 in the first quarter. The domination continued as Deccan Gymkhana led with the score of 22-14 at half time.
On exchanging sides, the Chonde Patil Academy girls tried to come closer as the score in the third quarter read 41-33.
Ilina Devadhar (18), Saanvi Gholap (11) displayed agood game scored in time for Deccan Gymkhana. For Chonde Patil Academy, Saee Brahmankar and Mansi Nirmalkar scored 18 points each.
In another semifinal encounter, Sardar Dastur High School girls defeated Vidyanchal Club 54-42 to make it to the finals.
The Vidyanchal girls got a good start as baskets kept coming in. They led with the score of 20-30 at the stroke of half time. In the second half, the Dastur girls got their act together and overtook Vidyanchal with Bhumika Sarje top scoring for Dastur with 28 points. Adding to the tally was Tanvi Salve who scored 12 points and Sanskruti Pawar who chipped in with 10 points.
Meanwhile, Nandini Nimbalkar scored 15 points, Sanika Deshmukh scored 10 points and Sanyukta Mengle scored 8 points for Vidyanchal Club.
