Dakshineshwar ousts top seed Prabodh in quarters

Unseeded Suresh Dakshineshwar of  Tamil Nadu ousted top seeded Suraj Prabodh of Karnataka  6-4, 7-5 to enter the men’s singles semifinals of the Poona Club Trophy Rs 3. Lakh AITA Men’s and Women’s Open Tennis Championship being played at Poona Club tennis courts here on Thursday.

Pune: Unseeded Suresh Dakshineshwar of  Tamil Nadu ousted top seeded Suraj Prabodh of Karnataka  6-4, 7-5 to enter the men’s singles semifinals of the Poona Club Trophy Rs 3. Lakh AITA Men’s and Women’s Open Tennis Championship being played at Poona Club tennis courts here on Thursday.

Lucky loser and local lad Anvit Bendre continued his splendid run in the tournament as he came back from the loss of the first set to down state mate Shahbaaz Khan  with the score of 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 and set up a meeting with Dakshineshwar.
 
Meanwhile another local boy and third seeded Dhruv Sunish quelled the challenge of fifth seeded Delhi player Anurag Nenwani winning 6-1, 4-6, 6-3.
 
Sunish will now take on another Delhi player and second seeded Kunal Anand who outrallied local boy Sahil Gaware 6-4, 6-3.

In the women’s section, top seeded Vaidehi Chaudari of Gujarat made short work of sixth seeded Sravya Shivani Chilakalapudi of Telangana winning 6-3, 6-4.

 She will now take on seventh seeded Nidhi Chilumula of Telangana who scored an easy win over state player Akanksha Nitture 6-0, 6-2.
 
Fourth seeded Soha Sadiq of Andhra Pradesh staved off a challenge from PCMC girl Tejasvi Kate winning 3-6, 6-1, 6-2.
 
Sadiq will take on second seeded Nithyaraj Baburaj of Tamil Nadu who ended the challenge of Uttar Pradesh’s eighth seeded player Vanshika Choudhary with the score of 6-3, 6-4.
