Pune: The College of Military Engineering (CME) recently held a football tournament involving prestigious engineering colleges of Pune, in the series of commemorative events, as part of Platinum Jubilee year celebrations.
The finals of the Football Tournament was played on 15 Jan 18 (Army day). In fiercely contested finals between Cadets Training Wing (CTW) and All India Shri Shivaji Memorial Society (AISSMS) College of Engineering, Cadets Training Wing (CTW) won with a score of 2-0.
A total number of eight engineering colleges with football teams of repute were invited to participate along with a team each from Cadets Trg Wing and CME. Amongst the colleges participating were AISSMS, VIT, PICT, COEP, DY Patil, VIIT and AIT. The tournament was held on knock out basis.
The event was held with the view of providing on platform for close interaction and exposure of students of engineering streams, to generate exchange of ideas and goodwill amongst each other. The endeavor shall also aim to motivate budding engineers to join Indian Army in future as officers.
In a befitting ceremony, Lt Gen Michael Mathews, VSM, Commandant, CME felicitated the winner and runner up teams.
The event was graced with the presence of Sports directors from reputed Degree Engineering Colleges.
