Pune: Corner Pockets Champs and SK’s Six Pockets Professionals ensured quarterfinals berths in the 12th edition of the PYC-ATC Snooker Championship at the PYC Hindu Gymkhana on Tuesday.
Corner Pockets ousted BSSA Shooters 3-0 while SK’s Six Pockets Professionals earned a 2-1 victory over Ball Breakers.
Corner Pockets Champs started the pre-quarterfinal match on a bright note as Malkeet Singh defeated Satish Karad 38-28, 65-9, 40-9. Abhimanyu Gandhi continued winning streak for Corner Pocket as he scored 34-0, 40-73, 65 (65)-1, 55-18 victory over Salman Mohammed to take the indisputable 2-0 lead.
In the second pre-quarterfinal, Siddharth Tembe of SK’s Six Pockets Professionals registered a 47-40, 28-75, 40-7, 38-68, 46-22 victory over Piyush Khuswah of Ball Breakers. However, Ball Breakers cueist Mohameed Hussain Khan equalised the contest as he defeated 17-38, 82-31, 45-20, 65-9 victory over Akash Padalikar to make thecontest 2-all. In the decider, Liyakat Shaikh of SK’s Six Pockets managed to pull out a hard fought 24-52, 66-20, 18-28, 54-41, 45-15 victory over Priyank Jaiswal to win the challenge 2-1.
