As top seed, Zeel had her task cut out. But Natasha, from Goa, is a seasoned player and zoned in beautifully for a win in a marathon three setter at 4-6, 6-4, 6-0.

NEW DELHI: Natasha Palha tore the form book to shreds as she dumped top seed Zeel Desai out of the Feneta Open National Tennis Championship semi-finals on Friday. In Saturday’s final, Natasha will run into second seed Mahak Jain.

As top seed, Zeel had her task cut out. But Natasha, from Goa, is a seasoned player and zoned in beautifully for a win in a marathon three setter at 4-6, 6-4, 6-0.

This is the second time Zeel has tripped on the big stage, though full credit should go to Natasha. At 24 years of age, the girl has experience in her bag and used it to the hilt on the hard courts at the DLTA complex. For those watching the final set, it was a rout as Natasha, the underdog, did not drop a single game.

In the second semi-final, Mahak Jain was full of poise as she carved out a hard-fought win against Prerna Bhambri. Mahak won 7-6 (9-7), 4-6, 6-3.

The men’s singles final will be contested by Arjun Kadhe and Siddharth Vishwakarma. Arjun Kadhe had been touted as the pre-tournament favourite had to stretch evin his semi-final against third seed Siddharth Rawat.
