Chandigarh thrash Namdhari 4-1

Along with Chandigarh, Punjab & Sind Bank, Air India Sports Promotion Board, Punjab and Railway Sports Promotion Board also scored victory on day one of the tournament.

PUNE: Chandigarh started their campaign on the winning note defeating Namdhari XI 4-1 in a Pool D contest in the 8th Hockey India Senior Men National Championship, A Division which started in Lucknow on Thursday.

Along with Chandigarh, Punjab & Sind Bank, Air India Sports Promotion Board, Punjab and Railway Sports Promotion Board also scored victory on day one of the tournament.

The matches are played at Padma Shri Mohammad Shahid Synthetic Hockey Stadium and the Major Dhyanchand Hockey Stadium. 

In Pool D contest, Chandigarh started off well in their match as they scored a goal each in the first and the third quarters to take a two-goal lead. 

However, Namdhari XI pulled a goal back in the 43rd minute through Bhagat Singh Dhillon, but that was not enough to see them make a comeback as Hockey Chandigarh scored twice in the last four minutes to win the match 4-1. Goals for the victors were scored by Damanjit Singh (10th, 37th), Harnek Singh (56th) and Amandeep (59th).

Results, Day 1: Chandigarh beat Namdhari XI 4-1, Punjab & Sind Bank beat Haryana 2-1, Comptroller & Auditor General of India drew with Association of Indian Universities 2-2, Air India Sports Promotion Board beat Gangpur-Odisha 2-0, Punjab beat Karnataka 5-2, Railway Sports Promotion Board beat Odisha 9-1.
