Cathedral Mumbai stuns Bishop’s Camp

Pune: Cathedral & John Connon, Mumbai stunned nine-time champions Bishop’s, Camp, 2-0 in a Junior College league football match, in the 29th All Maharashtra Anglo-Indian Schools tournament, at the Barnes School & Junior College, Devlali on Sunday.

In the basketball competition for girls, Bishop’s, Kalyaninagar beat Barnes 42-11 with Riya Savant and Shivanjali Pandit scoring 16 points each.

In the basketball competition for girls, Bishop’s, Kalyaninagar beat Barnes 42-11 with Riya Savant and Shivanjali Pandit scoring 16 points each.

Cathedral maintained their winning streak following a 44-24 win over Bishop’s, Camp in their fourth straight success that has sealed their place in the semi-finals.

Christ Church, Mumbai fashioned impressive back-to-back wins when they snatched a thrilling 13-12 win over hosts Barnes and later beat Bishop’s, Undri 13-5 win for their second win in five ties that includes three losses, as they concluded their league engagements.

Cathedral romped to their fourth straight win in as many ties as they scored once in each half for an impressive win over the favourites. With no serious threat from Bishop’s, Cathedral dominated the contest to seal their place in the semi-finals.

Cathedral shot into the lead when Kabir Sukhwani’s powerful volley was blocked by Bishop’s goalkeeper Rajat Kirloskar and Daryush Kapadia fired in the rebound. Kirloskar came to his side’s rescue when he bocked Cathedral forward Sanjay Doshi’s shot soon after.

Consistent scorer Mishal Mehta increased the tally when he connected a 30-yard Doshi free-kick that beat the defence and Kirloskar this time.  Bishop’s, who earlier beat Hutchings 4-0, endured their second loss in four matches but are assured of a semi-final berth with a match remaining against Bombay Scottish, Mahim.

In another Junior College league match, Christ Church, Mumbai who endured four straight losses, finally tasted success with a 2-0 win over Hutchings to complete their league engagements. Faisal Khan fired both goals.

In the Secondary league, Bishop’s, Kalyaninagar beat Campion, Mumbai 2-0 and Bishop’s, Undri 2-1 to compete their engagements with an all-win record to also enter the semi-finals.
In other matches, St. Peter’s, Mumbai drew Bishop’s, Undri 1-1 and were held in a scoreless encounter against Bombay Scottish, Powai, as they have three draws and a loss with a last league match remaining against St. Mary’s, ICSE, Mumbai.
