Bishop’s Kalyaninagar teams earns runner’s-up place
Mumbai’s Campion and Cathedral & John Connon respectively win football and basketball trophies
Pune: Mumbai schools Campion and Cathedral & John Connon emerged champions in the Secondary football for boys and basketball for girls, respectively, in the 29th All Maharashtra Anglo-Indian Schools tournament, at the Barnes School & Junior College, Devlali on Tuesday.
Campion outplayed Bishop’s Co-ed School, Kalyaninagar, Pune 4-0 in football as prolific strikers Aaryan Majumdar and Vivaan Roshan scored two goals each. St. Peter’s, Mazagaon registered a narrow 1-0 win over Bombay Scottish, Powai to finish third.
Majumdar struck in the opening minute that gave Campion a dream start for a 1-0 lead at half-time. After Aashad Vesuna’s 30-yard long ranger struck the post that would have been the goal of the tournament had it dipped in, Majumdar volleyed home for 2-0 before Roshan fired back-to-back goals just before the end to seal victory.
In the basketball finals for girls, Cathedral & John Connon proved too good for Bishop’s (Kalyaninagar), following an emphatic 57-28 victory. Bishop’s School (Camp), Pune beat Christ Church, Mumbai 39-11 to finish third.
Cathedral dominated the championship round from the start while racing to a 14-8 lead at the end of the first quarter and resting on a comfortable 40-18 cushion in the third quarter.
Cathedral’s experienced trio of captain Anjali Narain, Aditi Narvekar and Sanya Runwal held sway upfront with brilliant assists from Sanjana Parekh and Roshni Goela who kept Bishop’s star forward Riya Savant in check.

Basketball: Final: Cathedral 57 (Aditi Narvekar 16) bt Bishop’s, Kalyaninagar 28 (Riya Savant 16). 3/4th pay-off: Bishop’s, Camp 39 (Sachi Kulkarni 14) bt Christ Church 11.
