Bhalerao, Mehta steal show with an all-round display

Pune: Two all-around performances accentuated the action on Sunday as Gaurav Bhalerao and Jay Mehta steered their respective teams, TCS and Syntel, to the quarterfinal berths in the FLAME University Corporate Cricket T20 League 2019 at the FLAME University Campus in Lavale.

Win for TCS helped the tech giant to move to the top of Group C with six points ahead of Infosys (4 points) as the two qualified for the quarterfinals by finishing ahead of Persistent and Synerzip after the end of league matches.

In Group D Syntel’s win helped them to take their tally to 4 points, but KPIT desipite losing their last league match topped the rankings thanks to their better Net Run Rate, while the other teams in the group, Barclays and ATOS were stranded with 2 points each.

Infosys had a rocky start after being put in to bat by TCS as the top order wobbled to be struggling at 27 for 3 to 53 for 4 as Bhalerao came up with a three-wicket haul to help dismiss Infosys at 104.
TCS made no bones if the target as they lost just two wickets and it was Bhalerao again who came good, now with the bat. In his 49-ball innings Bhalerao hit 7 fours and remained unbeaten on 54 helping TCS win by 8 wickets with 3.1 overs to spare.

Mehta holds firm
Opener Jay Mehta held firm his wicket despite losing his partner and captain Abhijeet Parida early on with just 3 runs on board, and his tenacity came good as Akshay Mohite (23--37b, 1x4) gave him good support as the two put together 100 runs for the second wicket.

Mehta went on to score 69 runs in 59 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes as Syntel posted 133 for 3 against KPIT.

Mehta returned with the ball and ended up with three wickets as KPIT was bowled out for 108.
