BEG, Central Railway, PCMC XI in semifinals

Pune: Bombay Engineering Group (BEG), qualified in a dramatic fashion and were joined by Central Railway (Pune Division) and PCMC XI in the semifinals of the 6th Late Hussain All India Hockey Tournament at the Maj. Dhyan Chand Hockey Stadium, Pimpri on Sunday.

BEG from Khadki needing a draw to qualify played out a 4-4 draw with Income Tax & Central Excise to qualify on goal difference from Pool-C.
BEG rallied from a 2-4 deficit to hold Income Tax. Herojit Singh (3rd) opened scoring for BEG while Prince Chaurasia levelled scores 1-1 in the 18th minute. BEG then trailed when Ashutosh Lingesh (21st) scored before levelling via Sam Kandulana (24th) to make it 2-2.

Two goals by Income Tax through Vikram Dabhol (26th) and Ashutosh Lingesh (34th) put BEG 2-4 down. However the services team had Sanjay Toppo (44th) and Sam (59th) scoring a goal each.

Pool-B: PCMC XI:  3 (Jitendra Gawane 11th & 15th; Shabbir Shaikh 9th) b Sports Authority of Gujarat: 2 (Sumit Patul 41st; Pankaj Vaja 43rd). HT: 2-0
Pool-C: Income Tax  & Central Excise: 4 (Prince Chauurasia 18th; Ashitosh Lingesh 21st & 34th; Vikram Dabol 26th) drew with  Bombay Engineer Group, Khadki: 4 (Herojit Singh 3rd; Sam Kandulna 24th & 59th; Sanjay Toppo 44th). HT: 2-4.
