Nagpur: The first of the two Yonex Sunrise All India Sub-Junior Ranking Badminton Tournaments in Under-15 and Under-17 sections, currently underway at Nagpur has reached its crescendo, thanks to an unprecedented participation of shuttlers from across the country.

The two legs of age-group tournament—the second leg starts in Hyderabad from July 31—has its significance because the two tournaments will form the basis for selection of Team India squads for the Asian Junior (U-15 and U-17), to be held in Myanmar in October.

In last year’s event which took place at Yangoon, Samiya Imad Farooqui had won a gold medal in the Under-15 category and there are a lot of expectations from the current lot.

In fact, it was PV Sindhu, who claimed the Under-19 gold in the championships held in South Korea six years ago to open India’s medal account in Asian Juniors.
