Ashan to coach Puneri Paltan for Season 6

Former Services coach Ashan Kumar has been handed the coaching reins of Puneri Paltan as the InsureKot-owned team aims to win the ultimate prize at the Pro Kabaddi League Season 6, which commences  from October 19.

Pune: Former Services coach Ashan Kumar has been handed the coaching reins of Puneri Paltan as the InsureKot-owned team aims to win the ultimate prize at the Pro Kabaddi League Season 6, which commences  from October 19.

Arjuna Awardee Ashan Kumar has worked closely with Nashik Army sports unit and has also coached Haryana team during the 64th Kabaddi Senior Nationals where Haryana reached the semi-finals. 

Ashan, the 1990 Beijing Asian Games gold medallist, captained India many a time at several international tournaments. He was part of the Indian kabaddi team that won the gold medal in the XIth Asian Games in Beijing. Incidentally, that gold from kabaddi was the lone medal India won in the 1990 Asiad.

Puneri Paltan CEO Kailash Kandpal was happy with the appointment of the experienced coach for Paltan. 

“We are looking at building a dynamic squad and wanted a coach who had varied experience across teams. Ashan Kumar, appointed as a coach for season 6, has worked with international and national teams,” said Kandpal.

“With a proven track record with these teams, he is excited and eager to prove himself in PKL. We are banking on his experience,” added Kandpal. In Season 5, Puneri Paltan, which finished third,  was coached by BC Ramesh.
