Aryan outplays Aarush; Swapnali tames Mrunmayi

Eleventh seeded Aryan held his nerves to stun top seeded Aarush 4-2 while Swapnali sweat out hard to oust Mrunmayi Raikhelkar 4-2

Pune: Aryan Panse and Swapnali Narle came out with shining performances to claim Under-18 title in the 8th Players Cup Table Tennis Tournament at Deccan Gymkhana on Tuesday.

Among boys, Eleventh seeded Aryan held his nerves to stun top seeded Aarush 4-2 while Swapnali sweat out hard to oust Mrunmayi Raikhelkar 4-2.

Aryan started off brilliantly taking first three sets 11-4, 11-5, 11-3. Aarush hold his nerves in the fourth set and took it 11-9. In fourth set as well, Aarush kept momentum in his favour with taking fifth set 11-4.

In sixth set Aarush needed a victory to equalise the contest but Aryan stealed the set winning with the score reading 11-8.

Later, top seeded Swapnali also started with taking the opening set 11-8 but second seeded Mrunmayi made it 1-all taking the second set 12-10.

Swapnali fought bravely taking third and fourth set 11-7 and 11-4. 

Mrunmayi managed to win the fifth set but could not continue the momentum as Swapnali wrapped up the contest taking the sixth set 11-6.
