Pune: Sherco TVS Factory Rally Team rider Aravind KP scripted a stupendous performance through the Aragon desert in Spain and finished 13th overall, in Aragon BAJA 2017, a competition that tested his preparations for the 2018 Dakar Rally.
Competing in the FIM Low World Cup Motorcycles Category, Aravind posted an admirable timings for the 13th position ahead of his teammate Adrien Metge, who was 15th.
Sherco TVS couldn’t have been more happier as their first driver Joan Pedrero finished on podium to underline the team’s preparations for the upcoming rally in Morocco, the last qualification event for the Dakar 2018.
The 34th edition of the BAJA Aragon kick started on July 21 in Spain with India being represented by Sherco-TVS factory team.
The Indo-French team had riders Spaniard Joan Pedrero, French-man Adrien Metge and Aravind on the TVS RTR 450, all of who had showcased their mettle at the Dakar rally earlier this year.
The team covered a total of 800 kilometre over the weekend in the gruelling race. This was Aravind’s second run at Baja Aragon rally, having finished 21st overall last year.
The riders took on the the Teruel region on their RTR 450 rally bikes with two competitive stages. Teams then tackled a super special stage of 9.6 km on the first evening and then two longer selective sections of 216.80 km and 139.20 km on Saturday.
The teams rode across Jiloca, Sierra de Albarracin, Comarca de Teruel and Cuencas Mineras in the Spanish desert, through some of the scenic routes. The competitive race came to a close with a single stage of 178.70 km on Sunday.
Sherco-TVS faced competition from established rivals such as Honda, KTM, Yamaha and Husqvarna.
