Aqsa, Afreen and Bilkis score as Anglo Urdu HS storms into semis

Pune: Aqsa Ansari, Afreen Shaikh and Bilkis Shaikh scored one goal each to help Anglo Urdu Girls High School, Camp, cruised into the semifinals in the Girl’s section of the Sakal Schoolympics Hockey tournament at the Major Dhyan Chand Poligras Stadium in Nehrunagar, Pimpri on Tuesday.

Anglo Urdu School rode on the three goals to beat St Clare’s Girls High School, Camp, 3-1.

Aqsa drew the first blood when she scored in the 17th minute before Afreen (25th) and Bilkis (26th) scored in a space of one minute give Anglo Urdu School 3-0 lead.

For St Clare’s, Upasana Pawar (27th) scored the consolation goal.

Also making it to the semifinals in the Girl’s section was New Millennium English Medium High School and Junior College, New Sangvi, who scored 4-1 win over Angel Mickey Minie School, Hadapsar.

Kunjal Gadge struck the opening goal for New Millennium School in the sixth minute before Sukanya Dhaware (20th) made it 2-0 for the New Sangvi school.

Kunjal found the target again in the 30th minute to complete her brace and Arya Chavan scored for the Hadapsar School towards the end of the match to save her school from getting blanked. 

St Joseph’s in semifinals
Yash Angeer went on a goal binge firing in five goals as St Joseph High School Boy’s School, Khadki routed Rajiv Gandhi Madhyamik Vidyalaya, Pimpri, 13-0 to book their semifinal berth.

In a totally one-sided match, Rohan Kangelli opened the scoring for St Joseph’s in the second minute of the match, but it was Yash who took over the proceedings after he struck the first goal in the 9th minute. His other goals came in the 18th, 26th, 27th and 32nd minutes.

Vishal Varad then fired three goals after Hanzala Tamboli came up with a brace to St Joseph’s completely dominated the proceedings.

Angel Mickey Minie School also made through the last four stage, but without breaking a sweat as they got walkover from Modern High School Shivajinagar.
