PUNE: Twenty teams including six outstation teams will lock horns in the inaugural Ajit Dada Chashak hockey Tournament at the Major Dhyan Chand Hockey Stadium, Pimpri, from Monday.
The tournament organised by the Nationalist Youth Congress Party Pimpri Chinchwad City is being run under the auspices of Hockey Maharashtra.
The final of the seven day tournament has been scheduled for July 22, which will also commemorate the birthday of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Ajit Pawar.
Meanwhile, the tournament will be played on a knock out basis. Tournament Director Firoz Shaikh informed that six outstations teams from within the State will figure in the draw. The other 14 teams will be local teams. A total of three matches will be played daily beginning at 1 pm.
The local teams confirmed so far are: Bombay Engineer Group, Khadki, Central Railway, Krida Prabodhini, Railway Police, SRPF, Aspat Academy, PCMC XI, Hockey United, Hockey Lovers, Kids XI, Chikalwadi Young Boys, Income Tax Dept. Pune, Pune City Police, Rakshak S.C, Priyadarshini SC, Khadki. Among the outstation teams confirmed are GST & Customs and Satara XI.
The winners will stand to be richer by Rs 25,000. Meanwhile, individual awards: Best Goalkeeper, Best Defender, Best Half, Best Forward and Player of the Tournament will also be given out. Likewise, each match will have a Player of the Match award given out.
