Abhishek beats Kapil, enters quarterfinals

Pune: Top seed Abhishek Kulkarni continued good run in the tournament to enter the quarterfinal defeating Kapil Patwardhan 15-10, 15-11 in men’s category of the 10th Amanora Cup PYC HTBA badminton tournament at PYC Hindu Gymkhana on Tuesday.

Mihir Palande had to fight for three games before getting into quarterfinals. Going down in the first game 6-15, Mihir had to sweat out hard to oust Rohit Kunte 15-7, 15-9 in the next two sets.

Soham Navandhar and Apoorva Javadekar entered quarterfinal with a win over Hrishikesh Kulkarni and Apoorva Javadekar respectively.

In the Under-17 boys’ category, Kedar Bhide secured the place in pre-quarterfinal defeating Rohit Chide 15-10, 15-6. Vivek Habbu also advanced into the round of 16 getting better of Arya Kurkute 8-15, 15-13, 15-10.

The second seed, Varun Kapur fought hard to move ahead into the tournament defeating Sarang Shriram 15-9, 15-5.
