Aakanksha bags Every Sunday Rapid chess title

Aakanksha, who is also a holder of the one Woman Grandmaster norm, scored seven points out of eight games.

PUNE: Woman International Master Aakanksha Hagawane won the 52nd and last edition of the MJ’s Trophy Every Sunday Rapid Chess Championship. 

Aakanksha, who is also a holder of the one Woman Grandmaster norm, scored seven points out of eight games. It was a flawless performance by Aakanksha which helped her to emerge as clear winner in the strong field. The victory also gave Aakanksha “Best Performer of the series” trophy and a laptop as  gift.

In the final round Akanksha, who finished with 7 points, defeated Gaurav Das with black pieces.

It was the third series of 52nd Every Sunday Rapid Chess tournament organised by Jayant Gokhale Chess Institute. 

The tournament was held in 8 round swiss league format and the Chief arbiter was International Arbiter Rajendra Shidore assisted by Senior National Arbiter Amit Sohony.

Top five winners: 1. Aakanksha Hagawane (7 points), 2. Sourav Sahoo (6.5 and 33.5 Bucholz), 3. Rohan Joshi  (6.5 and 31 Bucholz), 4. Keval Nirgun (6 and 31.5 Bucholz), 5. Digambar Jail  (6 and 30.5 Bucholz).

Age group winners:  
Under-8: Ojal Ambilwade; Under-10: Advait Patil; Under-12: Om Sarode; Under-14: Aryan Shah; Under-16: Ameya Datar.
