Aaishwarya, Girish take top honours

Pune: Aaishwarya Aher and Girish Joshi won the One Day Rapid Chess Tournament which was organised Old Monk Sports Club at Mangalwadi Complex.

Aaishwarya took the home trophy with scoring six points while Girish scored 5.5 points.

Juily Deshpande and Raghubar Tyagi were the second best in boys and girls categories respectively. Juily and Raghubar scored five points each.

Aaishwarya took the home trophy with scoring six points while Girish scored 5.5 points.

Juily Deshpande and Raghubar Tyagi were the second best in boys and girls categories respectively. Juily and Raghubar scored five points each. 

The special prize of Senior Most player was won by KK Khare in Men’s category and Sunita Ambekar in Women’s section. The youngest player award was given to Kevika Somaiyya - who is just five years old.

Thirty players each participated in the men’s and women’s category respectively. Event generated great response among the city people. 

The tournament was conducted in Swiss League format with 6 rounds. The Chief Arbiter was Dipti Shidore - the youngest FIDE Arbiter of our country and she was assisted by National Arbiter Amit Sohoni and Harshad Hagawane.

Women: 1. Aaishwarya Aher 6 points; 2. Juily Deshpande 5 points; 3. Aanya Roy 4 points and 18 Bucholz; 4. Dhanashree Khairmode 4 points and 17 Bucholz; 5. Lalitagauri Walimbe 4 points and 16.5 Bucholz.

Men: 1. Girish Joshi 5.5 points, 2. Raghubar Tyagi 5 points and 19 Bucholz, 3.UK Sahasrabuddhe 5 points and 18 Bucholz; 4. Manjiri Mahajan 5 points and 17 Bucholz; 5. Suresh Nemlekar 4.5 points.
