‘Arena of Valor’ to feature in Asian Games on e-Sports debut

Tencent Games’ Arena of Valor is one of the most popular multiplayer online battle arena which will make debut as a demonstration sport meaning medals won will not be included in the overall medals tally.

Pune: As Jakarta gets ready for the debut of e-Sports as an exhibition sports at the forthcoming Asian Games, the multi-player online battle game—the Arena of Valor by Tencent Games—has been chosen to be featured in the quadrennial multi-sport extravaganza along with five other online games.
The Olympic Council of Asia and the Asian eSports Federation (AeSF) on Monday announced its selection of a total of six games that have been included for the August 18-September 2 Asian Games, including other popular games like Pro Evolution Soccer, League of Legends, Hearthstone, Starcraft II and Clash Royale.

A total of 45 nations will participate in the regional qualifiers of the eSports category, out of which eight teams will be selected for the main rounds to be played in late August.

Esports has been confirmed as a full medal event from the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games.

Arena of Valor is a multiplayer online battle arena, a video game subgenre that has boomed in popularity due to the industry’s growing eSports scene. Since its launch in China in 2015, Arena of Valor has experienced immense growth and now boasts of more than 200 million monthly active players, making it one of the most popular mobile games in the world.
It has been the highest grossing smartphone game in China’s iOS Top Grossing Chart with healthy metrics, double-digit growth in DAUs and strong growth in revenues on year-on-year basis.

Tencent Games is also looking to conduct local eSports tournaments for Arena of Valor in India.
