Hands of humanity needed for ‘God’s own country’

With over 315 people dead and property worth Rs 4,800 crore getting destroyed, Kerala is reeling under unprecedented destruction due to floods in 13 out of 14 districts. As it continues to rain in many states, sufferings of millions of people in Kerala has no limit.

The state’s economy, too, has been badly hit due to severe damage to paddy cultivation, one of the major sources of income of the state. The tourism business is also affected. Hospitals are full with the sick and injured people.

Needless to say that people of Kerala need help, which is flowing from all quarters, considering the seriousness of the calamity. However, what is being offered is not enough. Kerala needs help from you all to recover from this disaster. Against the backdrop of this calamity, the ‘Sakal Relief Fund’, which plays a major role in offering help to those affected by natural calamities, has contributed Rs 10 lakh on its own. We are  now appealing to readers to step ahead to offer help to the flood-affected people of Kerala.

Funds will be accepted at the Sakal office in Pune and at all other centres from Monday (Aug 20) between 10 am and 5 pm.
