PUNE: A 26-year-old Zumba teacher, who was accused of molestation by a politician’s wife, has been acquitted by the court.

Ravin Prashant Gaikwad, a resident of Nana Peth, was arrested by the Koregaon Park police in December last year.

The complainant, a yoga teacher, took  a  hall on rent in Queen’s Garden area, where Yoga classes are held from 8 am to 10 am.

Adjacent to that hall is a gym, where Gaikwad is employed as a Zumba instructor.

As per the complaint, on December 7, 2016, she went to her class but found Gaikwad there taking a Zumba class Her yoga students were standing outside. She  requested Gaikwad to conclude his class as she, but he said he will not finish his class till 8.15 am.

He allegedly pushed her and abused her due to which she fell down. Thereafter, she called up her husband, whom the accused abused and threatened to assault.

Gaikwad denied all these allegations and claimed that her husband assaulted him. Advocate Parimal Deshmukh argued the case on his behalf.

After going through the evidence, Judicial Magistrate (First Class) PT Gotey acquitted Gaikwad of the molestation charge.

“In the present case the prosecution has no cogent and reliable evidence against the accused. There is no corroboration in their evidence. Even the corroboration is not there in the evidence of the complainant and her husband and eye witness. It shows that the defence of the accused that in order to close his Zumba class false report is lodged by her, appears to be probable,” the judgement dated October 12 states.
