Youth kills self after killing six-year-old

Pune: A six-year-old girl was allegedly sexually abused and killed by a youth after her widowed mother had rejected his marriage proposal. Later, the accused allegedly committed suicide by hanging from a tree. 

The incident took place on Tuesday at the College of Military Engineering (CME), Dapodi. 

Based on complaint from the victim’s mother, an FIR has been registered with Bhosari police station against the accused man Vijay Yadav (22), a native of Madhya Pradesh. He was unmarried. 

According to the police, the woman’s husband died in May last year. She worked at a mess where the accused also worked as waiter. After the demise of her husband, she developed close relations with the accused who started pestering her for marriage but she had refused. Recently, he had quarrelled over the issue and threatened to teach her a lesson. 

On Tuesday morning, the victim was alone at home after her mother left for work and sister went to school. The accused went there allegedly sexually abused her and then strangled her to death. 

The incident came to light when her mother returned home around 1.30 pm. The victim was under the cot and unresponsive. She was rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival. The post-mortem stated that she died between 8 am and 11 am.
 
Senior Police Inspector NV Jadhav of Bhosari police station, said, “The accused was found hanging from a tree on the campus. We suspect that he committed suicide.”

A First Information Report in this regard has been filed under various subsections of sections 376 (rape) and 377 (unnatural offence) of the Indian Penal Code and sections of the Protection of Children from the Sexual Offences Act.
