Pune: A youth from Panvel has been nabbed by Cyber Crime Cell officials for allegedly blackmailing seven girls after posting obscene posts about them on social media and also demanding money for deleting them.
The youth identified as Krishna Baliram Fad has been handed over to Sangvi police station for further investigation.
According to the police, he had hacked the Instagram account of a girl who is known to him. He posted several obscene photos and messages and when she asked him to delete the posts, he demanded Rs 15,000 from her. After that, she lodged a complaint with the cyber cell and during the investigation, it was found that he was harassing seven girls from his group in a similar manner. Two of them have lodged complaint till now.
DCP (cyber cell) Sudhir Hiremath said, “If anyone posts obscene photos, messages online, the person should immediately approach us.”
606 complaints in 2017
Cyber cell officials said that in 2017, they had received 606 complaints regarding obscene photos, messages on social media and 214 cases have been forwarded to police stations. This year, till now, 189 such complaints have been received and 62 of them have been forwarded to the police station for further investigation.
