Pune: An 18-year-old youth was sentenced to 10 years rigorous imprisonment for a sexual assault on a four-year-old girl in 2016. Special Judge Dilip Murumkar on Thursday also fined the convict, Dattatraya alias Datta Rajendra More of Sadashiv Peth, Rs 3,000.
According to Dattawadi police, the convict stayed in the same building as the victim. On the afternoon of March 10, 2016, the girl was playing on the staircase of her building when the incident took place. The victim went home crying at 3.30 pm and told her parents that “Bhavdya (convict)” residing in their building had assaulted her and complained of pain in her private parts.
Thereafter, she showed them the place where the incident took place, which was on the last upper step of a staircase of the 2nd floor. The victim disclosed that while she was playing on the ground floor, Bhavdya (convict) took her alone there and committed the act. She said she was frightened and shouted, and then the convict threatened her to not disclose the incident to anybody. She also showed them the house of the accused, who is their neighbour.
Her family members took the victim to Dattawadi police station and lodged an FIR for offences under Indian Penal Code and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The convict was arrested three days later. The court found him guilty of rape under the IPC and penetrative sexual assault of POCSO Act.
