Pune: A 24-year-old man has been sentenced to one-year rigorous imprisonment for stalking a school girl in 2014.
Special judge JT Utpat also imposed a fine of Rs 1,500 on the convict, Sachin Shivaji Yede, a resident of Ravet, who worked as a driver. According to police, in 2013-14, Yede used to stalk and harass a 17-year-old year girl, who studied in Std XII.
Yede used to follow the victim and would continuously ask her for friendship. Though she had rejected his proposal, Yede would contact the girl by phone or send her SMSes occasionally. He used to chase the victim when she used to go to junior college.
On January 21, 2014, when Yede called on the girl’s phone, her father received the call and Yede told him that he wanted to meet the girl. The girl’s father asked him to meet and they met at Mahalsakant Chowk in Akurdi.
Yede told him that he has got photos of the girl in his mobile phone and he threatened to misuse them. When the man tried to take the phone, Yede bit his hand and fled from the spot. Later, an FIR was registered against him with the Nigdi police station.
The court sentenced him for offences under the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
