PUNE: Mayuri Yadav from Baramati who created a makeshift bicycle for her physically challenged brother has qualified for the national competition and she will be participating in ‘Innovation in Science,’ which is going to be held in Delhi from February 13 to 15.

Mayuri, a student of class X in Anand Vidyalaya, Hol, Baramati, had made a wheelchair-cum-cycle for her 13-year-old brother Nikhil as he often used to miss his classes when their father was not around to drop him.

Recently, she won the State-Level Inspire Award, a regional level competition held at Sangli and is qualified for national-level competition in Delhi. Talking about her achievements, Principal of Anand Vidyalaya, AS Atar, said, “Mayuri is a very talented girl and since the time she came to us with this idea, we were hopeful that she will win lots of accolades. We always knew that she will win regional competition and we are sure that she will win at national level as well.”

“This year, she will be appearing for boards and I am sure she will score a meritorious rank for herself and make us and the school more proud,” he added.

Popat Yadav, Mayuri’s father said, “I am very proud of her. She is receiving so much appreciation for her work. With this idea, she is actually sharing my workload by taking responsibility of her brother. I am sure she will win the national competition too.”

Mayuri is overwhelmed with the response her invention is getting. She said, “I am glad I have been selected for this competition and I am confident that I will win this as well.”

“This invention was done to support my brother and help him and I would like to do more such inventions to support the disabled,” she added.
