World Mental Health Awareness Week being marked by Sassoon

Pune: The Psychiatry Department of the BJ Government Medical College (BJGMC) and Sassoon General Hospital Pune in collaboration with Maharashtra Institute of Mental Health (MIMH) is celebrating World Mental Health Awareness week from October 9 to October 13.

World Mental Health Day is observed on October 10 every year, with the overall objective of raising awareness of mental health issues and mobilising efforts in support of better mental health.

Pune: The Psychiatry Department of the BJ Government Medical College (BJGMC) and Sassoon General Hospital Pune in collaboration with Maharashtra Institute of Mental Health (MIMH) is celebrating World Mental Health Awareness week from October 9 to October 13.

World Mental Health Day is observed on October 10 every year, with the overall objective of raising awareness of mental health issues and mobilising efforts in support of better mental health.

Officials at BJGMC said that there is ‘No Health without Mental Health’ which emphasises the importance of mental health especially in terms of work-life balance. This year’s World Health Organization has given the theme of ‘Mental Health in Workplace’ for promoting mental health awareness.

The mental health week celebration started with theme-based poster making and essay writing competition for all undergraduate and postgraduate students. On October 10 morning there will be poster exhibition in SGH premises, to be inaugurated by Dean BJGMC and Director MIMH, Dr Ajay Chandanwale, followed by a play and public awareness talk at Day Care Centre, MIMH. Series of programme will be continuing in afternoon with panel discussion at MIMH Auditorium on the theme ‘Mental Health in the workplace’ by students.

A free movie screening for public awareness about mental health will take place on October 11 at BJGMC auditorium at 5pm. Various activities like rangoli, greeting cards making competition and sports are planned for our ‘Manomitra’ patients on October 11 and October 12.
