Workshop for school bus drivers held

Pune: “Drivers and conductors should learn how to evacuate children from vans during an emergency. Safety of school children is the priority of the transport department,” said Dr Pravin Gedam, State Transport Commissioner, on Saturday, at an event organised by Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO).

The workshop for school bus drivers and conductors was organised at 
Pt Bhimsen Joshi Auditorium, Aundh. The workshop was organised with the help of Rotary Club of Middle Town and school bus association. 
Dr Gedam was the chief guest of the event, along with Ashok Morale, DCP Traffic, Balasaheb Ajri, Regional Transport Officer, Sanjay Raut, Deputy Regional Transport Officer were also present.

“This type of event should be organised every year, where the bus drivers and conductors can learn safety,” he said.

Around 500 drivers, conductors, bus association members with school children and parents were present. During the event, the drivers and conductors went through medical checkups. RTO officials checked the safety of vehicles. 

They also checked whether fire extinguishers had been installed in buses. Drivers and attendants were provided basic training on how to react to an emergency and ways to evacuate 
students.
The workshop included awareness about speed driving, safety, inspection of vehicles and parents’ meeting.
