Pune: As the State Government has exempted the use of thermocol for decorative items for the Ganesh festival, demand for eco-friendly decorations during Ganeshotsav has increased.

Considering this growing demand, Abhay Kardeguddi, Founder of NIVA Growth Consultants has undertaken an initiative to propagate and impart expert training in making eco-friendly makhars ahead of the festival.

During a press conference, Kardeguddi said, “There are about 8 lakh families in Pune. Considering that if only 50 per cent of them celebrate Ganeshotsav, there is already good demand for makhars. With the ongoing plastic ban, even if 50 per cent of them decide to use eco-friendly items, that will still make it a huge demand for eco-friendly products.”

“This makhar can be easily assembled. After use, it can be dismantled stored in a paper box. It is 100 per cent environment friendly. The makhars are available in four colours and can bear upto 15 kg of weight,” he said.
