Work of two deck flyover at Karve road to start today

Pune: Officials of MahaMetro will start the work of building the two deck flyover from Saturday. The MahaMetro will divert the traffic of light vehicles as MahaMetro will barricade the area near Nal Stop to SNDT Chowk.

The barricading will lead to narrowing of Karve Road causing inconvenience to several commuters.

MahaMetro is in process of planning the best execution plan for the flyover to cause the least inconvenience to people. Atul Gadgil, Executive Director of the Pune Metro project said that they will try out various combinations of traffic management based on the traffic situation in the area.

Officials of MahaMetro said that light vehicles like two-wheelers, cars and rickshaws will be diverted from Paud Road, SNDT Chowk to Athavale Chowk. MahaMetro will also deploy 42 traffic wardens in the area to manage the traffic.

Gadgil said that they have taken suggestions from Pune traffic department before starting the work of the two deck flyover. MahaMetro has given four towing vans to Kothrud, Deccan and Shivajinagar traffic divisions. MahaMetro is also placing all important traffic sign boards in the area. After the work for Pune Metro began, the problem of traffic congestion on Karve Road has increased two-fold. Earlier, there was a problem at Nal Stop junction. To solve the problem, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) constructed a flyover.

However, there was no respite and the situation worsened after the ongoing Metro work. MahaMetro has offered the solution of constructing a two-tier flyover to solve the problem.
