Pune: The work on Pune Metro Project in Pimpri Chinchwad area has started in full swing. The first segment of the metro route, connecting Shivajinagar to Pimpri, is expected to be launched at Kharalwadi in next few days. The work for this stretch has begun in Pimpri Chinchwad area from June 2017.
Project Manager for Pune Metro Project, Sunil Mhaske, said, “Foundation work of 69 pillars has begun from the Harris Bridge to Pimpri metro route. The foundation work of 26 pillars has been completed so far. 74 segments of this project have been cast at Pimple Gurav. The segment for the metro route is expected to be launched at the site where the work for the pillars has been completed.”
Mhaske said, “The Mahametro has started work on Sant Tukaramnagar metro station. Besides this, stations at Fugewadi, Kasarwadi, Dapodi and Bopodi will be completed within the expected timeframe. The Mahametro has decided to replant 135 big trees on this route. Out of this, three trees have been already replanted by the authority.”
Citizens push demand for extension
As the work for the metro project is going on on a war footing, the demand for the extension of the project till Nigdi is being raised by the citizens’ groups as well as political leaders in the city.
