Women passengers held for protesting at station

Pune: The Pune railway administration, on Monday, took action against 13 women passengers, travelling between Pune and Daund for protesting against the railway division. The women were demanding a permanent stoppage for the Pune-Daund passenger train at the Ghorpadi yard and indulged in chain-pulling. These women were arrested and presented before the railway court.

According to an official, the women pulled the chain of train number 51350 Daund-Pune passenger and started protesting by standing in front of the railway engine and blocked the railway route for an hour. Due to this incident, not only this train but also six other trains were delayed, which caused difficulties to thousands of passengers. The women were arrested under various sections of the Railway Act. Later, they got bail by paying Rs 400 as fine, while one woman was fined Rs 500.

“The Pune-Daund-Pune passenger train is running on the demand of passengers on a priority basis. Due to the protest, the train was unnecessarily delayed. During 2017-18, around 26 people died and five others were seriously injured while crossing the railway track,” said Manoj Jhawar, spokesperson of the Pune division.
