Woman riding pillion killed in road mishap

Pune: A 55-year-old woman riding pillion on a bike with her husband was killed after being run over by a truck on Kondhwa-Katraj Road on Friday. The truck hit the bike from behind and she fell down on the road. 

The deceased was identified as Pramila. Her husband Ashok Kanhoji Jagtap (60) of Kondhwa Budruk lodged an FIR against the truck driver Nagendrappa Kalburgi. Kondhwa police are  investigating the case.

According to the police, the accident took place at 3.35 pm opposite Metro Powder Coating godown. “I was riding the two-wheeler while my wife was pillion rider. We were going to buy vegetables near the ISKCON Temple Chowk. The truck came from behind and hit the bike. We fell down and my wife Pramila came under the wheels of the truck. She was rushed to Sassoon General Hospital where she was declared brought dead,” Jagtap stated in his complaint. 

The passers-by caught the driver and handed him over to police. He has been charged with offences under sections 304a (causing death due to negligence), 279 (rash driving) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Motor Vehicle Act.
