Woman finds herself alone with drunkard masturbating in train

PUNE: A 32-year-old working woman and a regular commuter of local trains has shared an incident, which happened on Thursday morning, has once again raised security concerns about ladies compartment of the Pune-Lonavla local trains.

According to the woman, who works in an electronic company in Kasarwadi, she found herself alone with a drunkard, who was masturbating inside the coach, with nobody coming to help her. When she called the Railway Protection Force (RPF) helpline, she alleged, she was told that she would only get help at a station, which was about 20 minutes away.

A colleague of the lady passenger posted the incident on Facebook. She wrote, "Long post alert Talegaon-Shivajinagar local time 10 am first class ladies compartment haven't posted on this tag since it went viral as I couldn't see the point in this. But what happened today just had to be shared. Got in regular ladies compartment. On my way to office. There this drunkard was masturbating near the other door. By the time I realised, the train had already started. So, I couldn't get off. Couldn't get down at the next station as well, as he was sitting across the door...blocking it with his dick sticking out. And honestly, I was plain scared. Just sat in one corner hoping he wouldn't notice me. In the meantime, I had already called up the police helpline as soon as I realised my situation."

She called up the Mumbai control room. According to her, they heard her and she got call from Pune RPF.

"Turns out the number was of the Mumbai control room. They heard me out and a few minutes later, I received a call from Pune RPF. They assured me that the police would be there to help at Dehu Road/Akurdi...that is about 20 minutes from where I had called to complain. Meanwhile, that fellow finished his task..zipped up and grinned as he noticed me there. Realising that I just couldn't sit there and wait for help I got up intending to get off at the next station. He was still there partially blocking the door. God knows what came over me fear..anger..danger..helplessness..I just started kicking him 'THERE' and hitting him with my bag. Lucky me he was drunk and I was able to overpower him. He rolled off the train near the next station. Called up RPF that they need not bother as their help was arriving a tad too late. They assured me that someone will see what happened to that man..as if I care as if his safety was their primary responsibility!!"

Suhas Kamble, Inspector In-charge RPF Pune Station, claimed that women constables are deployed in the ladies compartments, but due to some of them going for training, there was a shortage in last few days.

"For last four-five days, we are not able to deploy constables in some of the trains due to the shortage. However, after we were informed about this incident, we have sprung into action and are looking for the man who is involved in the alleged incident. We will also take utmost care so that such incidents don't happen," said Kamble. He also said that the investigation was being hampered because they are not able to contact the victim.
