Woman duped of Rs 4.37 lakh on pretext of installing mobile tower

Pune: A woman was duped of Rs 4.37 lakh on pretext of installing a mobile tower at her land in Daund. A case in this regard was registered on Tuesday at Khadak police station.

The complainant, Kumudani Kurapatti (55), a resident of Ganj Peth, was lured into the trap by an advertisement in a Marathi daily. The advertisement was about taking on lease a plot of land for installing a mobile tower with monthly rent of Rs 75,000 to 90,000 and a deposit of Rs 75 lakh for a period of 20 years.

According to the Khadak police, the complainant dialed the phone number mentioned in the newspaper and she was duped of Rs 4.37 lakh between December 17, 2017, and February 16, 2018.

She was made to deposit the amount in the account of fraudsters on the pretext of completing documentation. The complainant realised she had been duped after the fraudsters demanded more money and then started avoiding her calls on being questioned about the documentation procedure.

The police have registered a case of cheating against the unknown accused.
