Woman booked for torturing, starving pigs

Pune: A 40-year-old woman has been booked by Pune city police for allegedly torturing three pigs by tying them near a nala and not giving them proper food.

A member of People for Animals (PFA), Vinita Wadera Tandon, has lodged a complaint in this regard with Chatuhshrungi police station on Wednesday.
According to Amit Shah of Jeev Sewa Foundation, who had received information about the pigs from a journalist, the pigs were being tortured.

“They were tied near a nala in Anand Bharat Chowk in Pandav Nagar. Dogs were continuously barking at them while the owner was not giving them proper food. We called the police and got the pigs released,” Shah said.

Based on the complaint, police have registered a non-cognisable (NC) offence against the owner, Bala Tusam, who lives in Chapekar Nagar near Central Mall on Ganeshkhind Road. She has been booked for offences under relevant sections of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animal Act, 1960.
