PUNE: A magistrate court on Thursday remanded Amol Kale of Chinchwad to CBI police custody till September 14 in connection with the murder of rationalist Dr Narendra Dabholkar.
CBI has claimed that he is the man who provided logistical support including weapon to the shooters Sachin Prakashrao Andure and Sharad Kalaskar, both from Aurangabad, who allegedly shot dead Dabholkar in 2013.
After getting his custody from Bengaluru, where he was arrested in murder case of Gauri Lankesh, the agency flew him to Mumbai on Thursday. From there, he was brought to the court in Shivajinagar in a vehicle.
After the Bombay High Court came down heavily on investigation agencies for revealing information to media in sensitive cases, the CBI officer did not divulge the information openly.
Special public prosecutor (CBI) Vijaykumar Dhakne submitted the remand application and case diary to the Judicial Magistrate (First Class) SMA Sayyed. He did not argue in the court.
On the other hand, defence lawyer Dharamraj Chandel argued that the accused was already in the custody of Karnataka police and the police enquired about Dabholkar case also, so there is no point in giving his custody again in the same case.
After reading the remand report and case diary and defence lawyer’s argument, the judicial magistrate remanded Kale to police custody till September 14.
