Walkway on JM rd to PMC metro stations to be built

PUNE: In what comes as soothing news to pedestrians using the Jangli Maharaj (JM) Road, officials of Mahametro will be building a walkway connecting Deccan Gymkhana station to PMC station of the Vanaaz Ramwadi corridor of the Metro project.

Speaking about the walkway, Chief Project Manager of Mahametro Gautam Birhade said that the three stations including Deccan Gymkhana, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Udyan and PMC will be connected with a single walkway, which will run below the metro train. “The walkway will also have several entry and exit points thus helping pedestrians to safely commute between the points as per their needs. The walkway will also be connected to Narayan Peth and Varthak garden on one side using cable bridges. On the other side, the walkway will be connected to several points on the JM Road. Connecting the cable bridges and walkway will be on priority after the metro track is constructed,” added Birhade.

Speaking on the progress work of the metro project on Karve Road, Birhade said that the Mahametro will start work between YC Chowk and VG Chowk. 

“The stretch is about 300 metres long and 18 pillars will be erected on the stretch. The barricading on the road will start from Friday night and construction activity of excavation for laying the foundation of the pillar will start from Saturday morning. The stretch will be a no parking zone and State Transport buses will be diverted on the stretch.” added Birhade.

The Mahametro will start a survey of Swargate-Katraj route of metro project using drone cameras from Saturday. The Mahametro is also in process of preparing detailed project report (DPR) of the Swargate-Katraj route.

Speaking about the progress on Vanaaz metro depot, Birhade said that the tenders for the depot work will be called soon.

VANAAZ RAMWADI CORRIDOR PROGRESS
- Mahametro has planned around 300 pillars on the Vanaaz Ramwadi corridor of which foundation of 40 pillars have been laid while four pillars have been erected completely till date.
- Similarly, Mahametro has also started work on constructing entry and exit points of Ideal Colony, Garware College and Anand Nagar stations.
