Transformer failure has disrupted electricity in the area since Thursday afternoon

Pune: Hundreds of residents of Kawade Vasti and interior parts of Wagholi suffered due to power failure from Thursday afternoon till Friday evening. Around 200 families staying in the area did not get water and many children were not able to study due to the electricity disconnection. Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) said that the power was disconnected due to failure of a transformer.

Nirbhay Singh Thakur, an IT professional, told Sakal Times, "There is no power supply since Thursday afternoon. MSEDCL officials are not listing to us and they are not even picking up our phone calls. We filed a complaint on Thursday night, but we have had no electricity. Our children are giving examinations and they are not able to study due to the power failure."

Most residents complained of MSEDCL officials not giving a response to complaints. "We thought it is a regular power disconnection, but till 8 pm on Thursday, there was no power we were calling the helpline number. There was no power till Friday and it is continuously hot. On Friday morning, we got to know that there was a transformer failure and, when asked to change the transformer, officials didn't give an answer," said another resident.

When contacted, Ravindrasingh Bundele, MSEDCL Executive Engineer, Mulshi, said, "We received the complaint yesterday (Thursday). There were two complaints in Wagholi, one from Wadpe Vasti and another from Kawade Vasti. There was a transformer failure at Kawade Vasti. We have already sent our engineers to replace it on a priority basis." The residents were still waiting for power to resume at the time of going to the press.
