Pune: Doctors of the Animal Husbandry Department organised a vaccination camp for cows, buffaloes and goats of farmers in different villages of Mulshi taluka. The doctors were accompanied by students of Krantisinh Nana Patil College of Veterinary Science.

Speaking about the vaccination camp, Dr Anil Deshpande, Assistant Commissioner of Animal Husbandry said 540 cows and buffaloes along with 180 goats were vaccinated on Saturday.

“As these animals can get infected by several diseases it is better to vaccinate them periodically. The villagers were also made aware of diseases related to animals so that they approach doctors once they come across any symptoms in a particular animal. Medicines were provided to these animals,” added Dr Deshpande.

He said ahead of the rainy season, animals can suffer from foot and mouth disease, hemorrhagic septicemia and black quarter disease and so the vaccination drive was carried out.

“The drive was carried out in Kashig, Valen and Kolwan villages, which are in the interior parts of Mulshi. The farmers there do not have good access to veterinary doctors and so we planned the drive,” added Dr Deshpande.

A similar drive was organised by Dr Sachin Deshpande in Hirdoshi village in Bhor on Thursday. Around 74 cows and 10 buffaloes were vaccinated to prevent botulism disease.
Dr Sachin Deshpande said precautions should be taken while burying a dead animal in the ground.
