Pune: Around 16 vehicles were smashed by a group of youngsters in Upper Indira Nagar here on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday. A case in this regard was registered at Bibwewadi police station.
The incident occurred in the areas adjoining Padmavati, Ganesh Nagar, Shreyas Nagar and Shelke Nagar in the close proximity of Upper Indira Nagar Bus depot. Police have arrested one accused, identified as Shubham Garde (21), a resident of Balaji Nagar.
Garde, along with seven others, indulged in vandalism.
As per the information provided by Bibwewadi police, a group of youngsters vandalised 16 vehicles in the area including cars, tempos and autorickshaws. The perpetrators smashed the vehicles’ window panes with stones and sticks.
Police said the miscreants fled after the locals came out of their homes.
BP Devkate, Assistant Sub-Inspector, Bibwewadi police station, who is the investigating officer, said, “We have seven more accused to catch. The exact cause behind the vandalising of the vehicles is still not known.”
Police have registered a case of rioting along with other relevant sections of IPC against the eight accused.
