Uruli villagers postpone stir after meet with civic chief

PUNE: Uruli Devachi villagers have postponed their agitation for next three months as the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has prepared a long-term garbage management plan. 

The villagers met the municipal commissioner on Friday. After taking a written assurance from him, they announced that they will not resume the agitation. While suspending the agitation, they had warned the municipal corporation that if it failed to take any concrete steps for solving the garbage problem, they will resume the agitation from the first week of June.

The villagers met the municipal commissioner on Friday. After taking a written assurance from him, they announced that they will not resume the agitation. While suspending the agitation, they had warned the municipal corporation that if it failed to take any concrete steps for solving the garbage problem, they will resume the agitation from the first week of June.

Mayor Mukta Tilak and Municipal Commissioner Kunal Kumar met the chief minister on Thursday and presented the detailed plan. The CM went through the plan prepared by the PMC and instructed them to execute it to solve the garbage problem by 2019.

The municipal commissioner briefed Uruli villagers about the meeting with the chief minister. After learning about the efforts being taken by the municipal corporation, the villagers announced that they would not restart the agitation at least for next three months.
