Pune: Officials of Daund police cracked the murder case of a history sheeter, who hailed from Kolkata, after 50 days of investigation. The deceased has been identified as Shivshankar Ghosh, who worked in Kurkumbh in Pune district.

Pune: Officials of Daund police cracked the murder case of a history sheeter, who hailed from Kolkata, after 50 days of investigation. The deceased has been identified as Shivshankar Ghosh, who worked in Kurkumbh in Pune district.

What happened?
On June 6, officials of Daund police found the body of an unidentified youth in Bholovadi area of Jiregaon village, Daund. The youth's throat was slit before his body was dumped. When rgw police started investigating the case, they failed to identify the man in Jiregaon village. The police had found tyre marks near the crime scene, based on which the police concluded that the place where the body was dumped is not the primary crime scene. Following this, police officials placed flex boards of the deceased in nearby villages so that the body could be identified.

How the body was identified?
After a few days of investigation, police officials though of visiting labour camps and conduction identification camps in MIDC and near by areas. The police had also shared their phone numbers so that informers can contact them. After conducting one such camp in Kurkumbh, Police Sub-Inspector Gajanan Jadhav received a phone call from an informer who told the police that he knew the dead person. Police officials then managed to arrange a meeting with the informer, who told that the deceased was his friend and had sent him a selfie of his with other friends.

The investigation
Police officials then confirmed the selfie picture with the informer and found that the photo of the deceased matched the one in the selfie. Police officials then started circulating the picture in MIDC and located the owner for whom the deceased was working. The police found that the deceased was Shivshankar Ghosh.

The owner also identified three other persons in the selfie. The police then traced a person named Rishabh Yadav, who was present in the picture. He identified the other two persons as Shrikant Shirtawale and Santosh Shirtawale, who are in Satara. The police was also informed that Ghosh was working for Sandip Dete in Satara.

Police officials were then in search of Shrikant, Santosh and Sandip and received information that Shrikant and Santosh are in Mumbai. Accordingly, Police Inspector Bhagwan Nimbalkar sent a team to Mumbai and the duo were nabbed. Shrikant and Santosh revealed that Sandip was also involved in the murder.

Why Ghosh was murdered?
After Sandip was nabbed by the Daund police, he revealed that he and Shivshankar were friends and had met in Khandala court as they were criminals. Later, Shivshankar started working for Sandip at his stable. After a few days, Shivshankar started harassing the localites of Kus Kurd in Satara. Shivshankar would tease and abuse women in the village.

The local villagers then complained to Sandip about Shivshankar and he was asked to leave the village. Shivshankar then started staying in Kurkumbh but was in touch with Sandip's friend on Facebook and other social media sites. Shivshankar continued to talk in abusive language about women and girls of Kus Kurd village on social media sites. This irked Sandip and he planned to kill Shivshankar.

Throat slit
On June 5, Sandip called Shivshankar for a drink along with Shrikant, Santosh and Rishabh. The five of them were drinking in Sandip's car when the accused slit Shivshankar's throat and dumped his body in Jiregaon village. Police Inspector Bhagwan Nimbalkar is investigating the case.
