UGC bats for eco-friendly examinations

PUNE: As the examination season is around the corner, University Grants Commission (UGC) directed all the colleges and universities to inculcate eco-friendly practices. Addressing the environmental problems, the Commission has directed all universities and colleges to promote procurement of recycled paper, and shift to eco-friendly goods.

It has mentioned in the circular that higher educational institutes are requested to promote procurement of recycled paper and avoid incorporating restrictive condition such as insisting on paper made of wood, bamboo or agro-based pulps, which are virgin pulp in tenders for procurement of writing and printing paper.

“We have been following the recycling of papers for many years. We store the answer-sheets for five years for records as per the rules. After this, we shred these papers and recycle and reuse it,” said Vice-Chancellor of Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU).
