Two persons killed in accident on Kharadi Bypass Road

Pune: A 61-year-old woman and her maternal grandson died, while another person sustained injuries when a speeding car hit them off Kharadi Bypass Road on Wednesday night, while they were watching a Ganesh immersion procession. The car had also hit four vehicles.

The police have identified the deceased as Kantabai Sahebrao Sonunane of Mahora in Jalna district and Nayan Ramesh Mokle (11), both residents of Satav Vasti, Kharadi. 

The injured person Mahendra Lokhande (41), a local resident, is out of danger, the police said.

According to the police, the accident took place around 8.30 pm on the road from Hotel Radisson towards Satav Vasti, off Kharadi Bypass.
 
The driver of a car lost control over the wheels and the car hit four vehicles besides knocking down these three persons. 

They were rushed to a nearby hospital where Kantabai and Nayan died during treatment around midnight. The car driver fled from the spot.
 
Later, officials from Chandan Nagar police station arrested the driver Saurav Shashikant Jasud (20) of Chandan Nagar. He has been charged for offences under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for rash driving and causing death due to negligence. 

The accused’s father is an officer with the municipal corporation.

Assistant Police Inspector Appasaheb More, who is investigating the case, said, “We have arrested driver Jasud and further investigation is going on. Also, the deceased boy’s father is serving in the Army.”
