Two more swine flu deaths; toll touches 64

Pune: A 61-year-old woman from Satara and a 37-year-old man from Latur district succumbed to swine flu taking the city death toll to 64.

The woman, a resident of Satara, had sent her swab sample to the National Institute of Virology on June 14. She tested positive on June 15 and lost the battle for her life at 1:50 am on Saturday.

The man, a resident of Dongargaon from Latur district, tested positive for swine flu on June 18. He succumbed to his condition on Friday at 2:45 pm.

According to the health department of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), both the victims were residents from out of Pune. So far, out of 64, 19 victims of swine flu have been from the city whereas 45 have been from out of Pune city limits.

On Saturday, one patient tested positive for H1N1 out of 2,999 patients who were screened. Around 71 were administered with Tamiflu tablets and 10 swab samples were sent for further testing. Currently, six patients are on ventilator, according to the PMC health department.

Since January, 1,4,26,158 patients have been screened for swine flu and 7,649 patients were administered with Tamiflu tablets. Swab samples of 1,347 patients were sent for testing and 321 were found to be positive. Out of these, 249 patients were given discharge from the hospital and 64 succumbed to the illness.
