Two more accused held in Cosmos Bank heist

Pune: After arresting four accused in the first four days of the week, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Pune police has again arrested two more persons in the Rs 94 crore Cosmos Bank online hacking fraud on Friday. With the arrest of two on Friday, the tally of arrestees has reached to six in the hacking fraud.

Those arrested on Friday were identified as Ali alias Mohammad Sayyad, a resident of Bhiwandi and Naresh Maharana, a resident of Palghar. The duo, along with the four who were previously arrested, were involved in withdrawing money from ATMs using cloned debit cards.

The major breakthrough in the case was achieved by the SIT headed by DCP Jyoti Priya Singh, on Tuesday when the initial arrest of two accused Fahim Mehfooz Shaikh, 27, a resident of Noorani Complex in Bhiwandi and Fahim Azim Khan, 30, a resident of Sillod in Aurangabad were made by the police.

In the second round of arrest, SIT has arrested Mahesh Sahebrao Rathod (22), a resident of Dhawari Tanda in Bhokar tehsil of Nanded and Shaikh Mohammad Abdul Jabbar, 28, a resident near Ayesha Masjid in Mirza Colony, in Sillod of Aurangabad district.

All arrested persons were working on commission and were assigned with the job of withdrawing money from ATMs using cloned cards. “They were part of the ring, which withdrew Rs 2.5 crore in India. The arrested six, along with three others who are yet to be arrested, had withdrawn cash of Rs 89.47 lakh from various ATMs in Kolhapur using cloned debit cards.”

The three, who are still at large, were identified as Kunal Shukla, Anthony and Abdul. The police are looking out for them and claimed that they are going to nab them soon.
